Dr. Dimitri Perivoliotis is a psychologist at the VA San Diego Healthcare System and Clinical Professor at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. He has spent over two decades studying psychosis, with a focus on how cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can help to improve the lives of people with this condition. While training alongside Aaron T. Beck, the father of CBT, Dr. Perivoliotis helped to co-develop Recovery Oriented Cognitive Therapy, an extension of CBT that emphasizes functioning and quality of life. Dr. Perivoliotis also studies the therapeutic use of psychedelics for the treatment of mental illness. He designs and conducts ketamine-assisted therapies at the VA and and is involved in research examining MDMA-assisted couples therapy for Veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder and their partners.
