Inspired, humbled, encouraged are three words to best describe author/illustrator, Roy Adorjan. In his early childhood, Roy's imagination was inspired by a range of characters and stories. Luminaries the likes of Walt Disney, Peyo, and Stan Lee played supporting roles in his character development and artistic style. In high school, meeting his best friend, Rene Sanchez, would provide a true leading role for future creative output. Here, early lessons were being learned through collaboration. Ideas were challenged. Storied situations were created and friendship, above all, would forge the foundation by which most of Roy's themes are built upon. Equally as pivotal, after enrolling in an Art program at Harper College, he would meet Rob Stotz. This would truly be a moment of epiphany. It was through Rob's artistic talent, guidance and friendship that propelled Roy to the next level; a humbling moment of self realization that the road to understanding art and story was a long journey and not a quick ride. Along the way, Roy raised a family, formed new friendships and would listen, thus, encouraging the possibilities to grow as a creative. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs won the World Series! As a lifelong Cubs fan, Roy wrote and illustrated "The LEGENDS of 16- A Bedtime Bear Story", based on the, now legendary, team. He would add this book to his catalog, right alongside his earliest story, the "Mini Martians". He added more titles like "7th heaven and the Rock'n'Roll Kids", "The Kneelees and the Standees" and multiple books in his "A Bedtime Bear Story" series as well. As in life, the improbable does happen. In less than one year prior to writing "The LEGENDS of 16, Roy was diagnosed with cancer... Still, just like the bottom of the 8th rain delay of game 7, the rain subsided and the sky opened up with clarity to follow. Today, Roy's still fighting that battle but, with his daughters, friends and family at his side, he’s winning it day by day. His message to his own kids, to all the kids that he has taught or entertained through the years and to every kid, young at heart, is three words; inspired, humbled, encouraged. Continue to be inspired by others while remembering to uphold the character it takes to be inspiring. Always be humbled by the people that support you. It's a lonely world doing it all by yourself. And, be encouraged by everything given before you and all that you have to give... it's always about what you have to give.
