David Sclar

David Sclar is a technology lawyer and author of Workplace Strategies for Technology Lawyers, a real-world book of practical tips on the skills you need to perform at a high level as an in-house lawyer at a technology company.   For most of his legal career, David has advised tech companies at various stages, from startups to established companies, in collaboration with business leaders and their teams.   He wrote two books on in-house counsel careers because, after years of experience and on-the-job training, he has learned how to succeed in the role, and he has advised others on how they can, too.   David is currently VP, Operations and Compliance at a startup called Truemed.*   Previously, he worked at WeightWatchers, Pfizer, and Rally Health, where he joined a rapidly growing startup as their second lawyer and Chief Privacy Officer and helped the company grow through acquisition by UnitedHealthcare.   He has also served as outside counsel to tech companies at BigLaw firms Ropes & Gray and Cooley.   David graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School and holds privacy and security certifications HCISPP, CIPP/US, and CIPP/C.   You can learn more about his background on LinkedIn or at davidsclar dot com. *Views are his own
