Sam Grubb is a father, author, writer, security expert, cat hoarder, and generally pretty funny person. He enjoys writing science and speculative fiction, threat reports, and long diatribes about compliance. In his off time, he plays video games and Warhammer 40K, reads, works slowly through his back catalog of textbooks and training videos, and hangs out with his family. He is a member of Red Octopus Theater group and enjoys doing pretty much any form of comedy. Except clowning. Or mimes. Or plays. Ok, so it's pretty much just sketch and improv.
Sam currently works as the Cyber Defense Operations Manager at Centennial Bank. Previously, he’s worked as a Senior Cybersecurity Consultant at Edafio. He is an expert in security awareness, risk management, policy and compliance. His true passion lies in threat analysis and he is currently growing his threat detection and intelligence, incident response, and digital forensic skills. Previously, Sam has worked as a Computer Science and Cybersecurity high school teacher, an Information Assurance instructor for the National Guard, a librarian, and a researcher for a military headgear museum. Yes, he knows too much about the American M1 helmet and would be delighted to tell you about it.
Sam has a Masters in Military History from Norwich University. He is an author of How Cybersecurity Really Works: A Hands-On Guide for Total Beginners, published by No Starch Press. He has also written for Arkansas Business Magazine and other publications. Currently, he is working on another book with No Starch Press on using PowerShell for security.
Sam has a passion for teaching and believes anyone can learn anything, given the right instruction. He believes that security should be public and accessible to everyone. He is open to opportunities to help create a rich, diverse, and equitable cybersecurity field.
