Fran Graham is well respected in her field as an author, public speaker, curriculum writer, international instructor and first responder, who draws on her own life's experiences, education and expertise to educate others. Her book "What To Do When Life Sucks" is used by many care-giving professionals, such as disaster relief teams, chaplains, first responders, pastors and medical providers, as a self-help resource to keep them healthy and stable in their challenging and exhausting careers. But everything that Fran writes and teaches about is for people from all walks of life. No one is immune from the effects of acute distress and trauma so her work is presented in such a way that everyone can relate to, and personally apply, all that she shares.
With an extensive background in a variety of disciplines, such as Law Enforcement, Disaster Relief, Critical Incident Stress Management, Chaplaincy, Psychological First Aid and Pastoral Care, Fran provides a wealth of knowledge and expertise as she helps others in many different traumatic and disastrous situations. She's passionate about ensuring that the correct interventions and resources are appropriately implemented for each unique need, whether it's for an individual, a group, or a town and encourages people to establish effective, vital habits, strong boundaries and holistically healthy choices, such as mental, emotional, behavioral, physical and spiritual aspects of self-care. She teaches the importance of recognizing signs and symptoms of grief, critical stress, burnout, compassion fatigue, post traumatic stress and vicarious trauma, and what to do about them. As an accredited instructor on topics such as Critical Incident Stress Management, National and International Disaster Response, Chaplaincy and Psychological Trauma, and by sharing easy to apply, proven strategies, Fran trains emergency responders and civilians interested in gaining the necessary skills which equip them to offer peer support and crisis intervention support to members of their community both nationally and internationally.
As a sought-after interventionist and strategic emergency response planner, Fran is often invited to lead responses to local emergencies as well as large-scale disasters. She currently serves as a Deputy Director of Emergency Management and works with fire and police agencies in the United States to train and build Peer Support Teams and Crisis Response Teams by implementing strategies of resilience for those in the field responding to traumatic events. She has served as a key author in updating policy and operations for interagency and inter-discipline Peer Support and Critical Incident Stress Management teams whose documents have been used as a template nationally.
