Dan Golembeski is a French-English translator of the four-volume "Longue marche" series (Bernard Ollivier, Skyhorse Publishing: "Out of Istanbul," "Walking to Samarkand," "Winds of the Steppe," and "Back to Istanbul"), selected by the National Endowment for the Arts for a 2017-18 Translation Fellowship. Though starting out in engineering (Oakland University, Michigan), travel soon had him so interested in language and Francophone culture that he decided to pursue an MA and PhD in French Linguistics (Indiana University). He taught a wide variety of university French courses (Indiana University, University of Southern Indiana, Grand Valley State University) and had led summer study abroad programs to Nice, France and shorter trips to Montreal, Canada. In 2020, he was awarded France’s Order of the Academic Palms for his dedication to French language and culture. After over twenty-five years in the classroom, he is now putting theory into practice through translation.
