Dr. Cynthia Catchings is the founder and executive director of the Women’s Emotional Wellness Center, with offices in Texas and the DC metro area. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of Texas- Rio Grande Valley. As a therapist, peer consultant, and the Council of Experts team member with Talkspace. She has published and collaborated with Teen Vogue, Bustle, NBC News, Yahoo, Google, the Born This Way Foundation, etc.
Cynthia has conducted ethnographic research in over 40 countries, including France, Greece, Turkey, Thailand, and India, with women’s issues and mental health as her main targets of study. The importance of human relationships and sharing information continues driving her to cross international boundaries to bring back to her community.
She has made significant contributions to the social work profession and the clients she has served, earning the NASW-TX LRGV Social Worker of the Year Award in 2016. She now serves as President of the board for the National Association of Social Workers- DC.
Cynthia lives in the DC area with her husband Clarence and her dog Storm.
