Ken MacTaggart has written about space since the 1980s when he interviewed Phil Bono, visionary spacecraft designer who worked for McDonnell Douglas Aviation, and his co-author Ken Gatland of the British Interplanetary Society. His particular interest in Apollo and the early Soviet space programme was expanded at his publisher’s request to include the broader sweep of topics in the Haynes Astronaut Manual. As a teenager, he followed the US moon program and the space flights of the USSR (Russia) since 1967, culminating in nine dazzling expeditions to the Moon shown on live TV up to 1972, a feat which has never been repeated. He has been a contributor to NASA’s Apollo Lunar Surface Journal since 1995, and has helped edit the Apollo 11 Flight Journal since its inception. He writes about space for British and European newspapers and magazines, and has featured in radio, TV and podcasts on space. He has a PhD in Technology Policy and is a Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society.
