And you never know what Larry and Joanne Garrett, along with service dog Mia, will be up to next. Have you ever held a marble and wondered about its history? In their research, the Garretts have always learned surprising (and often dark or unbelievable) things about marbles. Their favorite stories are about Native Americans (including magic, rituals, and burial offerings); marbles traded along the Chinese Silk Route; and Dutch shipwreck marbles found off the Florida coast. The authors share interests in history, archaeology and anthropology and love to travel. They started as high school sweethearts and continued their adventures for over five decades. After completing careers in education, they now live in Mobile, Alabama, and have created a small "marble museum" in their home. Their collection includes 61,000 marbles and hundreds of marble related toys, games, and collectibles (including marble pin ball games dating from the 1890s to the late 1960s).
