Douglas E. Comer is a Distinguished Professor of CS and ECE (courtesy) at Purdue University. He formerly served as the inaugural VP of Research at Cisco Systems. Comer began working on the Internet project in the late 1970s, and was a member of the original IAB. He is internationally recognized as an authority on TCP/IP Internet protocols. Comer has written a series of best-selling books on the Internet, Computer Networks, Operating Systems, Computer Architecture, and Cloud Computing. His

3-volume Internetworking series is cited as an authoritative work on Internet protocols and the scientific principles that underlie the Internet. Comer's books have been translated into 16 languages, and are used in industry and academia in many countries.

A former editor-in-chief of the journal Software -- Practice and Experience, he is a Fellow of the ACM, the recipient of numerous teaching awards, and a member of the Internet Hall of Fame.
