Dörte Frerksen came to writing crime novels through her job. It started with a traineeship at a small newspaper in Schleswig-Holstein. She then worked as a journalist for a Bremen publishing house for years. When the work there became less (and the pay got worse), she did what had always been on her mind. She started writing novels. At first they were just short stories that got longer and longer over time. She even wrote a romance novel (slumbering somewhere in the depths of her laptop). But her real passion is crime fiction. Because she always enjoyed reading them. Then why not write some? The locations were quickly found: the East Frisian Islands. She spent almost all of her summer vacations on one of the seven islands. She knows their peculiarities and the special charm of each one. All that was missing was the main character of her crime novels. It should be a woman and she should also know the East Frisian Islands very well. Out came Maike Hansen. The hands-on police chief speaks her mind and does what she thinks is necessary. She often raises eyebrows among her superiors. But ultimately they accept her and give her respect. Because the bottom line is that their work is professional and very successful.
