Abandoned by his father at age 3, Vince Burke became determined to assist his mother financially by working at a young age. When he was 16, he was named editor of the teenage section in the daily newspaper of his small Pennsylvania town. The disadvantage: his boss desired him. After high school, his small family—his mother, sister, and Vince—moved to Cleveland. There, Burke became a reporter and attended college. There, also, he came out, with exciting adventures, and some pitfalls. He soon relocated to Manhattan for a career on Madison Avenue. Burke and his partner bought and renovated apartment buildings, For many years they owned a house at Fire Island, where Burke had fascinating experiences, good and bad. He and his partner retired early, and took up residence in a 12th-century chateau in France. After his partner’s death, Burke met and married his spouse. They live in Virginia and Washington. Now 87, Vince Burke is in good health. He may be contacted at eggplant@att.net. Vince Burke’s writing has appeared in the Washington Post, the New York Post, the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and in various gay publications.
