Robert Murphy is an award-winning television crime correspondent, writer and director and podcaster. His latest book, Decoy (HarperCollins 2024) tells the true story of how a team of rookie female police officers caught a killer in an undercover operation in 1979. He co-authored To Hunt A Killer (Winner 'Best New Author' 2023 True Crime Awards/shortlisted for ALCS Gold Dagger.) He directed the documentary 'Decoy' (Winner of a Royal Television Society Award 2023) which was responsible for the re-arrest of a notorious convicted murderer who had been freed by the Parole Board. Rob made international headlines when, in July 2019, he discovered a ‘lost’ interview with Banksy. No other journalist has the same depth of knowledge of the investigation into the serial killer Christopher Halliwell. Robert also covered the 7/7 bombings, the Emile Cilliers prosecution, the trial of Penelope Jackson and the trial by media of Christopher Jefferies. He has also directed films including ‘A Confession: As Told By ITV News.’ Rob has won the Royal Television Society’s ‘Reporter of the Year’ award in the region. He was also an Associate Lecturer at the School of Journalism at the University of the West of England. He lives in Bristol with his family and his interests include real ale and wild swimming.
