Gary Riley has over thirty-five years of experience with rule-based programming and expert systems. While working at NASA’s Johnson Space Center from 1985 to 1996, he was a member of the development team for CLIPS, a popular rule-based programming language written in C. Since leaving NASA he has continued to independently develop and maintain a public domain version of CLIPS. He is the coauthor of the textbook Expert Systems: Principles and Programming, now in its fourth edition. In addition to creating expert system tools, part of his career has been as an expert system tool user, developing and maintaining three expert systems over a period of ten years. He can regularly be found on Stack Overflow and other online help forums answering questions about CLIPS.
