Captain Johnny Savage lives in the rural southern area of Virginia Beach with his wife Samantha. They have a son and three girls who are 4th generation members of Blackwater Baptist Church. Johnny started his fishing career in 1989 working on the head boats out of Rudee Inlet until 1992 when he started working on the offshore charter boats. While attending ODU he charted fished out of Rudee Inlet and Oregon Inlet until completing his Bachelors of Environmental Health and Safety in Dec. of 1996. Following his graduation, Johnny was blessed to be in the ranks of some of the best sportfishing crews in the world fishing out of Palm Beach, FL. He would go on to fish the east coast of the US, the Bahamas, Mexico and Bermuda. Following the accident in 1998, John returned to ODU and charter fishing in our area. In 2001, he obtained his captains license and ran his first charter on the Sniper. In the same year, Johnny decided to step away from the career that almost killed him and became a safety engineer for the Ford Motor Company. He continued fishing as a free-lance captain or mate. Johnny returned to fishing when the Norfolk Plant closed in 2007. His new position was a dream job with the ability to fish and save lives. He was captain of one of the first sixty-foot Viking Yachts- Episode and Safety Director for the boat owner’s company- Asphalt Roads and Materials. In 2016, Asphalt Roads and Materials was sold to become Virginia Paving Co. where he remains in his safety position. He has been blessed with the opportunity to the run boats such as the Just One More, Contango and Desperado.
