Shaunna & John Stith

Shaunna and John Stith are passionate about protecting the planet. Their debut picture book, BLACK BEACH: A Community, an Oil Spill, and the Origin of Earth Day, won the 2024 Green Earth Book Award and has been translated into multiple languages for audiences in North America, Europe, and Asia. Like their protagonist Sam, they've learned it feels a whole lot better to stand up and act than to sit back and watch. When the two are not busy writing stories or exploring the outdoors together, Shaunna practices law and John works as a writer for nonprofits and advocacy organizations. They also love to participate in hands-on volunteer events, where they are routinely inspired by the hard work and enthusiasm of young eco-activists.
