Mills Kelly is an author, hiker, historian, podcaster, and photographer. His work includes books and essays on the history of the Appalachian Trail, others on historical pedagogy, and a long time ago now, on the history of the Habsburg Monarchy. His podcast (The Green Tunnel) on the history of the Appalachian Trail covers topics from the founding of America’s most iconic long distance hiking trail to the history of the trailside shelters and their privies to stories of some of the quirkiest hikers to ever sling on a backpack. His books are deeply researched in archives, libraries, and museums and weave that research into compelling stories of the outdoor spaces that enrich our lives. As much of his free time as possible is spent hiking up and down the Appalachian Trail (and other long-distance trails), camera and notebook in hand, meeting other hikers, gathering their stories, and capturing images of the natural world we love. You can also find him out volunteering in our national parks and at local museums and non-profits.
