A picture paints a thousand words for young readers who can see. But for visually-impaired young readers, just a few more words paint a thousand pictures.

Sherri Eri, being herself visually-impaired (VI), weaves in a little more description into her stories than is usual in picture books.

Think of it like alt text used to describe photos in detail. Or the visual descriptions VI audiences can listen to while a movie or tv program is playing. The Visual descriptions help to explain onscreen action that dialogue or narration alone do not.

Similarly, with text descriptions woven in, VI picture book readers are better able to picture the illustrations when they are reading an e-book by themselves or when someone is reading the story to them. And that’s why Sherri calls her brand Picture The Book.
