Melanie is a passionate, lifelong learner. She is a graduate of Matoaca High School in Chesterfield, VA. She graduated from Virginia Tech University (B.S.), Virginia State University (M.Ed), Harvard University (C.E.E.L.) and Arkansas State University (Ed.S).
Melanie is currently a Reading Specialist/ Dyslexia Interventionist. She is a licensed educator in Virginia, Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, where she holds endorsements in PreK-6, Gifted & Talented, English as a Second Language and as a K-12 Reading Specialist. She has won several local, regional, state, and national awards.
She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, a lifelong member of Zion Apostolic Christian Memorial Temple in Petersburg until relocating to Texas in 2012. She is now an active member of Agape Christian Ministries, where she serves in the Children and Youth Ministry. She is a charter member of Tri-Cities VA chapter of Continental Societies, Inc. She is a founding member of BabyBuns For Life Network. She is also a member of the Town Lake (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. Melanie enjoys working with children, spending time with family, traveling, volunteering in the community, cooking and writing. She uses her business, Scents2Bless, to help others.
She is married to Shiron Hamlin, Sr. and they have two children, Shiron Jr. and Mariya. Melanie is the daughter of Dr. Rebecca Branch-Griffin and Melvin and Zelda Griffin. She is the sister of Dana Griffin-Graves (Arkell) and Justin Griffin (Ciarra).
