Erik Nordman, Ph.D. is a professor of natural resources management at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. He teaches courses and conducts research on various topics in environmental economics and policy ranging from the sustainable management of shared natural resources (commons) to renewable energy and valuation of ecosystem services. Nordman is the author of The Uncommon Knowledge of Elinor Ostrom: Essential Lessons for Collective Action (2021, Island Press). He wrote the book as a Visiting Scholar at Indiana University’s Ostrom Workshop and he continues to associate with the Workshop as an affiliate faculty. Nordman was a Fulbright Scholar and taught at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY and his B.S. in biology from SUNY Geneseo. He lives in Spring Lake, Michigan with his wife and two teenage children.
