Nicola Shaver has been working at the forefront of change in the legal industry for over ten years, leading innovation and change at large law firms in Canada and the United States. After studying law in Australia, Nicola practiced as a litigator and a media law specialist with top tier firms and Fortune 500 companies for close to a decade before her passion to make law better motivated a transition into legal innovation. As a senior innovation leader, Nicola has had the privilege of working with global teams of outstanding makers and doers in the legal field and has seen glimpses of what is possible when cross-disciplinary experts work together effectively. In 2020, the same year that her department at Paul Hastings LLP was named Innovator of the year, the International Legal Technology Association named Nicola the Innovative Leader of the Year. In 2021, she became a Fastcase 50 honoree and a Fellow of the College of Law Practice Management. In 2022, the ABA named her one of its Women of Legaltech. Nicola's curriculum on legal technology for summer associates was shortlisted by the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards for the Future of Law category. Nicola is currently the CEO and co-founder of Legaltech Hub, the foremost educational platform for insights and analysis on legal innovation, digital transformation and legaltech procurement. She is also the host of Luminate+ series The Innovation Edge, and an adjunct professor at Cardozo Law School, where she developed and teaches the school's inaugural course on legal technology and the business of law. She is a frequent advisor to law firms, corporate legal departments and legaltech companies, and has been invited to speak at conferences in Australia, Canada, the United States, Latin America and Europe, on topics such as digital transformation, organizational change, and technology adoption. She is a regular contributor to publications including Law360, ALM Legaltech News, Modern Lawyer, and Legal Business World, and a passionate advocate for positive change in the legal industry. In a past life, Nicola was a student of literature and a fiction writer. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two children.
