Hello, I'm Dr Andy Dobson, a science writer and former academic living in Edinburgh, UK. I studied Ecology at the University of Durham, before completing a PhD at Nottingham. I've since held research posts or fellowships at the universities of Oxford, Stirling, and Edinburgh. During the Covid lockdowns I twigged that it was much easier to write books about other people doing science than to do it yourself, so after ten years and only one recorded complaint for not wearing shoes or socks at work, I quit academia. I now have less money than I used to.
