Jeanette Gower has been breeding Australian Stock Horses for over 55 years in South Australia under the Chalani prefix. Together with her daughter Kim, the stud has enjoyed considerable success Australia wide. Jeanette taught adult Equine Studies for 19 years and has written numerous articles for equine magazines. In 1999 she wrote the widely acclaimed book Horse Colour Explained. Horses are her passion, and she shares that passion with her readers.

In 2023 she published her next book, The Thinking Horse Breeder - a comprehensive guide to successful horse breeding, as she saw a need for breeders to understand the art, science, tools and business of responsible horse breeding. This book has received very favorable reviews and has sold in over 16 countries.

Her third book, The Rannock Legacy - the story of a remarkable horse, demonstrates her meticulous research and admiration for good horses, by compiling a history of the foundation Australian Stock Horse stallion Rannock, the Chalani stud, and the families which bred these outstanding horses. It is a personal and at times, emotive story. This book is not only a journey through time, but provides important lessons along the way.
