Michael J Gilbert grew up in a small southern Michigan town in the United States of America. At the young age of 15 years old, he set his plans in motion to become a United States Navy Diver. He joined the U. S. Navy at age 18 two months out of high school. At age 20 Michael was part of Joint Task Force “Determined Response” in Aden, Yemen as a damage control crew member of the USS HAWES FFG-53. Along side the USS DONALD COOK DDG-75 he rendered his efforts to save the USS COLE DDG-67 after it was struck buy a small boat with a large Improvised Explosive Device. Michael attended second class diver training in December of 2000 and first class supervisor training in July of 2004 in Panama City, FL at Naval Diving & Salvage Training Center NDSTC. His Diving Commands are as follows: Naval Submarine Support Facility Dive Locker Seal Team Four Center of Explosive Ordnance Disposal & Diving Learning Site Great Lakes Mobile Diving & Salvage Unit Two Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training & Evaluation Unit Two Naval Special Warfare Group Two Logistics & Support Unit His character is brought to life in is autobiography Fouled Anchor. Michaels Naval Service lasted 21 years and he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He retired in 2019 and lives in southern Michigan with his wife and kids.
