Michael Whitman, Ph.D., CISM, CISSP is the Executive Director of the KSU Institute for Cybersecurity Workforce Development and a Professor of Information Security and Assurance. Dr. Whitman has worked in higher education since 1991 and has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Security since 1999. Dr. Whitman is the co-author of over a dozen Security-focused textbooks in over 24 editions including Principles of Information Security, Management of Information Security, and other titles published by Cengage Learning. He has published over 50 articles and made over 100 presentations on Security topics. He has received numerous awards for leadership and excellence in education, including the CISSE Educator of the Year in 2012. Dr. Whitman has been the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice, since he co-founded it in 2016. Under his leadership, Kennesaw State University has been designated by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education four times. Prior to moving to academia, Dr. Whitman was an officer in the United States Army.
