Robert N. Cahn is Senior Scientist, emeritus, at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research covers theoretical and experimental particle physics and cosmology. He served as Director of the Physics Division at Lawrence Berkeley Lab while Nobel Prize discoveries were made there with observations of the cosmic microwave background and of the accelerating expansion of the universe. Together with Sally Dawson of Brookhaven National Laboratory, he proposed the vector boson fusion process for Higgs boson production. His books include “Experimental Foundations of Particle Physics” with Gerson Goldhaber, “Semi-Simple Lie Algebras and Their Representations,” and “Grace in All Simplicity,” with co-author Chris Quigg. He also edited “John David Jackson: A Course in Quantum Mechanics,” a graduate text.
