Hello! My name is Nicholas (Nick) William Jones and I was born in Johannesburg in 1967. As the son of a Canadian diplomat, my childhood was a rich experience of diverse cultures, living in South Africa, Germany, and Iraq and visiting many countries in between.
in my teens we moved to Perth, Ontario, where I attended primary and high school in the 1980s. It was there, amidst the rolling hills of Eastern Ontario, that I discovered my love for skiing, carving my first trails on the modest slopes of Pakenham, Calabogie, and Dacre. Our "big" local mountain at the time was Mt. Tremblant in Quebec.
After high school, I pursued undergraduate and graduate degrees at Queen's University in the 1990s, followed by a decade working in Toronto. In 2004, life brought me to Vancouver, where the mountains called me back to skiing. I started on Mt. Seymour with my kids, and as they grew, we ventured to the bigger challenges of Whistler Blackcomb. Over ten years later, I still get a thrill every time I visit Whistler to ski!
In 2022, I took on a role as a moderator for a Whistler Blackcomb Facebook group. Answering questions and sharing tips with fellow enthusiasts, I eventually compiled a handy "free" info sheet that I shared with members of the group. This eventually sparked the idea, suggested by a group member, to write a guidebook.
Embracing this idea, I began writing in January 2023. Now, 11 months later, the first edition of my guidebook is published and available on Amazon! And this is just the beginning – my dream is to write guidebooks for other great ski hills in British Columbia, like Sun Peaks, Big White, Revelstoke, Kicking Horse, and maybe even beyond.
