James E. Gierach

James E. Gierach currently resides in the Chicago area. He is a former assistant state’s attorney of Cook County, municipal attorney, and retired general practitioner. He was elected the youngest delegate to write the 1970 Illinois Constitution and ran for Cook County state’s attorney and Illinois governor (1992 & 1994), proposing drug-policy-reform solutions to drug-prohibition problems. For 35 years, James fought to end drug prohibition (the failed World War on Drugs) as author, international speaker, pamphleteer, director of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) (an international, educational NGO), and draftsman of the first comprehensive, proposed amendment of United Nations drug-control treaties, presenting the proposal in a side event of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna and Ecuador. “The Silver Bullet Solution” has been recommended by reformers, three national drug czars (present & former) on three continents, and a member of the Global Commission on Drug Policy.
