From an early age, my passion revolved around the world of drawing and painting. The seeds of my artistic journey were planted when my father gifted me a Super8 camera during my childhood. This led me to create animated films featuring a charming character named "Linkan," whose adventures often centered around fishing. I vividly recall the scenes of Linkan approaching the lake, the lure dancing at the rod tip, and the sudden twist as a big fish engulfed the joyful fisherman, concluding the film with a dramatic flair. My artistic education began at ABF Art School, followed by a focused study in Art and Art Teaching at Umeå University. The alignment of these studies with my inherent interests laid the foundation for my future endeavors. Subsequently, I ventured into the realm of education, working as an Art Teacher in both Linköping and Uppsala. After dedicating numerous years to teaching, I felt the urge for a transformative change. In 2010, my wife Margaretha and I embarked on a new chapter by establishing a guesthouse in Malta, aptly named "Blå Dörren" (The Blue Door). During our time in Malta, I also imparted knowledge in drawing and watercolor. While the experience was enriching, the winds of change led us to Algarve, where we now spend our winters. Here, I have embraced my true calling as a full-time watercolor artist, offering workshops not only in Stockholm but also in Albufeira, Portugal. Whether capturing the scenic landscapes and cityscapes of Algarve during winters or depicting the charm of Swedish cityscapes in the summer, my artistic philosophy centers on simplicity. I strive to distill the essence of my subjects, creating watercolors that are luminous and ethereal, allowing every brushstroke to be a visible part of the narrative. The author, Stefan Gadnell, an experienced art teacher and artist from Sweden, generously shares his own paintings alongside images of selected artists from around the world, all to inspire you in your painting.
