Sketching and drawing has been a passion of me since I was a small kid. I grew up with superheros in comic books and soon after high school I studied at the Academy of Arts in Maastricht to get a degree in teaching art. It was the the late eighties when I graduated, a time that computer graphics was emerging. I was immediately captivated by the medium. I was able to get work at a computer graphics studio right after graduation and have been doing computer based picture making ever since. Over the years I have become a relentless perfectionist so I was hesitant to pick up sketching again after thirty years, afraid I would not like the results. But in the summer of 2016 I decided to start sketching with pen and paper again. To make it a bit more disciplined for myself I wanted to make at least one sketch every day. So that’s what I did! I did not really have a specific subject matter in mind but slowly my love for architecture emerged as the theme for my work. When the pandemic struck, I had to stay indoors but with the help of some great Instagram photographers in Japan I have struck on my most passionate theme yet. Stores and older built structures in Japan, many of them in Tokyo. That moved things into high gear and I now have a successful course on Domestika about my sketching work. My latest book will be released in August 2024
