Gladys Barrio

Gladys A. Barrio was born in Cuba, raised in Puerto Rico, and now resides in Miami, FL. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Miami and has authored over twenty-five scientific publications. Dr. Barrio served as Executive Director and Science Supervisor for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. She taught Chemistry and Methods of Teaching Science at various universities. A mother of two and grandmother of five, she draws inspiration from family for her writing. Gladys’ dream was to chronicle her parents' saga, from the Spanish Civil War to the Cuban exile, highlighting their quest for freedom and cherished values. Empowered By The Dream: A Journey of Resilience has been awarded the 2024 International Impact Book Award in two categories: Historical Fiction and Memoir.
