Doohyun Kim is the author of "A Necessary Lie: Escape for Freedom and Love." Born in North Korea, Doohyun's journey to freedom has been marked by courage and resilience. Together with his wife, Jiyeon Maeng, he risked everything to escape the oppressive regime and build a new life in the United States.
Doohyun holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Utah Valley University and has dedicated significant time and effort to The Committee for Human Rights in North Korea (HRNK), an organization that advocates for the rights of North Korean citizens. As a sought-after public speaker, Doohyun has shared his story and insights at various events across the United States, raising awareness about the plight of North Korean people.
Currently residing in the United States with Jiyeon and their sons, Doohyun enjoys the freedoms of his new life, including outdoor activities like fishing, camping, and hiking. He often reflects on the sacrifices made by his late father, who stood up for freedom in North Korea and gave his life for the cause.
Through "A Necessary Lie," Doohyun hopes to illuminate the human suffering in North Korea and inspire readers to appreciate their freedoms and work towards a more just and humane world.
