Sri Annamalai Swami was a disciple of Bhagavan Ramana Maharishi, one of the greatest and most widely respected Gurus that India has ever produced. Annamalai Swami came to Bhagavan at the young age of 22 and served him devotedly for over 14 years, surrendering his body, mind and soul to his Guru. And Bhagavan from day one kept a washful eye on the disciple, making sure nothing would distract him from the path that he carefully laid out for him.
Thousands of devotees came to Bhagavan. Many of them became his disciple, some even staying close to him. As Annamalai Swami had totally surrendered at the feet of Bhagavan he was blessed with extra care and support from Bhagavan till the end. Through Bhagavan's grace and rigorous sādhana (spiritual practice), he attained Self-realization. For over 50 years he never left his small ashram compound next door to Sri Ramanasramam (which still exists today), the ashram of his beloved Guru, where he attained Mahasamadhi on November 9, 1995.
