Jim McDermott is a writer and editor in New York. He spent many years working as an editor and cultural commentator for America Magazine, and as a Jesuit. He has also spent some time in the television industry, working as a staff writer on the show Preacher and a consultant on the show Evil. (His actual title was "exorcist tech," which was pretty much the coolest thing ever.)
Jim has written about theater, pop culture, queer life, and spirituality for many places, including New York Magazine, American Theatre, Dance Magazine, National Catholic Reporter, Popverse, Sojourners, and others. He does a weekly Substack on pop culture and spirituality called Pop Culture Spirit Wow, and an occasional one on theater called TheaterWow. He loves musical theater, the X-Men, 80s pop culture, and all things Australia.
