Dr. Carole MacNeil is an educator, researcher, author, and consultant in human and community development. For 12 years, she was a caregiver for four parents, discovering how a human development lens could improve the experience for both caregiver and cared-for. Carole has worked with communities all over the world on issues of intergenerational partnerships, social justice, and peacebuilding. When caregiving for parents and parents-in-law became a focus in her life, she applied her knowledge of human development to better understand the physical, cognitive, psychological-emotional, and social-behavioral changes that came with each of their unique aging processes. Throughout her own journey, she documented nearly a dozen years of caregiving to learn from her experiences and to share those lessons learned with other caregivers. Carole holds a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Boulder, School of Education; a Master’s Degree in Education from Harvard University; and a Bachelor’s degree from Occidental College. She was the recipient of a Fulbright Award, and spent a year serving as a visiting professor at the University of Nairobi in Kenya. She has presented, trained, and published worldwide on a range of topics related to human and community development, intergenerational partnerships, and social justice.
