Gwynne Kuhner Brown is Professor of Musicology at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, site of SAM’s 2025 conference. Her book on William L. Dawson's life and work was published by the University of Illinois Press in 2024. Brown is the editor of G. Schirmer's 2023 edition of Dawson's Negro Folk Symphony. Her articles and essays have appeared in the Journal of the Society for American Music, Journal of the American Musicological Society, Choral Journal, the collection Blackness in Opera, edited by Naomi André, Karen Bryan, and Eric Saylor, and The Oxford Handbook of Arrangement Studies, edited by Ryan Bañagale. She is currently collaborating with Joe Williams on a chapter about Florence B. Price’s solo keyboard works for the forthcoming Cambridge Companion to Florence B. Price, edited by Samantha Ege and Kori Hill.
