Author Biography: Roman Shum
I’m Roman Shum, a culinary storyteller born in the culturally rich city of Tbilisi. Growing up in a household where the kitchen was the soul of our home, I learned early on that food is more than just nourishment—it’s a language of love, heritage, and creativity. My earliest and most cherished memories are centered around my grandmother Claudia, a master of traditional Georgian cuisine, who showed me that each ingredient carries meaning.
My father, Raphael, a bold flavor experimenter, taught me that even the most time-honored recipes can be infused with a personal touch, creating unforgettable meals.
My passion for food has led me across the globe, from the bustling spice markets of India to the artisanal bakeries of France. Everywhere I traveled, I learned that every culture tells its story through food, and these stories became the inspiration for my writing. In my books, I share the rich variety of global cuisine—from hearty Georgian stews to zesty Mediterranean dishes—transforming international flavors into easy, everyday meals for the home kitchen.
As a devoted father, I now pass on my love for cooking to my own children. Our kitchen is a playground of flavors where we explore world cuisines and create dishes together, keeping alive the tradition of cooking with love and curiosity. I believe that the act of preparing food connects us to each other, and that a well-prepared meal nourishes not only the body but also the spirit.
Through my books, I hope to inspire others to find joy in cooking, embrace the diversity of world cuisines, and create their own culinary traditions.
