Bruce Balfour, PhD, is the national bestselling author of The Forge of Mars (Ace Books) and its sequel, The Digital Dead. He also writes under the pen name of B.J. Balfour, but that’s a secret, so don’t tell anybody. Bruce has never been an FBI agent or a serial killer, but he has held a high-level security clearance and has worked with FBI, CIA, DEA, and Secret Service agents in his former life at Sandia National Laboratories (a federal national security laboratory). Bruce also worked for NASA-Ames Research Center in the 1980s, where he spent part of his time flying on the high-altitude C-141 Kuiper Airborne Observatory (KAO) as computer operator for the Infrared Imagery of Shuttle (IRIS) experiment to intercept the Space Shuttle on re-entry. He does not recall killing anyone with experimental equipment while he was there. Bruce lives north of Phoenix, Arizona with his wife and a fierce Chihuahua named Bug.
