Sherry Meidell started her career as a graphic designer, continuing as an illustrator for children’s books and magazines, and painting watercolors that have been shown and won awards in regional and national exhibits. She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Utah Watercolor Society, and the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. She has received numerous awards, including best of show at the UWS Spring Exhibition 2015 and top award at the 2014 Arts in the Parks plein-air competition at Capitol Reef National Park, Society of Illustrators Los Angeles Illustration West 41 and 42 Competition Certificate of Merit.
She has taught watercolor classes, and presented multiple workshops on children’s book writing and illustrating, using a sketch book to improve skill and confidence, and watercolor painting and technique. She is the past president of the Utah Watercolor Society and past Utah illustrator coordinator for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
Sherry has illustrated several children’s books, including books by author Faye Gibbons. She loves capturing words and pictures, creating stories that live in books.
Sherry has had a full and active life outside of her art career, participating in Church and community activities, camping, hiking, running marathons, road and mountain biking. Sherry and her husband have raised a family of five boys, two iguanas, several snakes and dogs.
