Michael D. Davis-Thomas is a advocate, scholar, CEO, author, and changemaker from Detroit, MI, whose life has been defined by resilience and a commitment to transforming the systems that impact vulnerable youth. After surviving years of abuse and navigating Michigan’s foster care and juvenile justice systems, he has dedicated his life to advocating for children’s rights, juvenile justice reform, and systemic change in social services.

As the Founder and CEO of MDDTSpeaks, Michael offers consulting in child welfare, juvenile justice, criminal justice, education, and systems reform, bringing first-hand experience to the field. He is also the host of the award-winning Resilient Voices & Beyond Podcast, a nationally recognized platform that amplifies the voices of foster youth, advocates, and changemakers. With two seasons completed and a third underway, the podcast continues to drive awareness and advocacy on foster care issues.

Michael’s roles extend across various leadership and consultancy positions, including serving as a Senior NYTD Reviewer for the U.S. Children’s Bureau, a Federal/State Policy and Programming Consultant, and a Grant Reviewer for the Michigan Health Endowment Fund. As a Peer Support Specialist and Coach, he mentors individuals within the foster care, juvenile justice, and mental health systems, providing guidance and support.

Michael’s advocacy work has earned him national recognition, including being named Advocate of the Year by the National Foster Youth Institute and featured in Shoutout LA and Bold Journey magazines. He is also honored in the Black Former Foster Youth Hall of Fame for his contributions to social reform. Through his leadership on multiple advisory boards, such as the MDHHS Juvenile Justice Advisory Council and Michigan First MDHHS Statewide Foster Care Advisory Board, Michael actively shapes policies and programs to improve outcomes for youth.

Currently pursuing a double major in Political Science and Law in Society with a minor in Public Administration, Michael aspires to obtain two doctorates and a master’s degree, with long-term goals of serving in public office, including ambitions to become a Congressman, Senator, Governor of Michigan, and, ultimately, President of the United States.

An accomplished author, Michael’s latest book, Resilient Faith: Devotionals for Life’s Journey, reflects his own journey of faith and resilience. This collection of devotionals offers practical wisdom and hope, aiming to inspire readers to navigate life’s challenges with strength and grace. Michael is also in the process of building the Resilient Voices & Beyond Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering foster youth, offering scholarships, and providing second-chance opportunities.

Through his work with MDDTSpeaks, Michael provides specialized services in diversity, equity, and inclusion consulting; child welfare and juvenile justice system reform; criminal justice and education consulting; human trafficking prevention; and nonprofit leadership development. His life’s mission is to create lasting change and empowerment for others, rooted in faith, resilience, and a deep commitment to leaving a legacy of service and advocacy.
