Julie Greene is professor of history at the University of Maryland, and author of several books on US and global labor and migration. These include The Canal Builders: Making America's Empire at the Panama Canal, and Box 25: Archival Secrets, Caribbean Workers, and the Panama Canal. Julie hails from Nebraska originally, and remains connected to her home state as she works to revive an old family farm near Ashland. She's fascinated by the parallels between Nebraska and Panama--both long seen as providing a route to get somewhere else, but wondrous in their own right.
