Hi, I’m Joel Contreras! I am from the vibrant city of Mexico City and moved to Georgia when I was in elementary school. Although I now call the U.S. home, Mexico City will forever hold a special place in my heart. This book is my way of sharing the magic of Mexico City with you while also sharing a piece of my own story.

As a first-generation student, I’ve learned that being different is something to be proud of. Our heritage, culture, and family roots are our greatest strengths. To all the children and fellow Latinx individuals who’ve moved to a new country—never forget that where you come from makes you who you are, and that’s beautiful. This story is for you.
